Doyin Okupe, former director-general of the Obi/Datti presidential campaign, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s recent reforms, stating that Tinubu is on the right path for Nigeria’s future.
In an interview with Channels Television on Monday night, Okupe expressed his belief that the president’s actions are being unfairly criticized. “Tinubu is doing very well and will accomplish even more,” Okupe said. “What he needs is support, not opposition.”
Okupe argued that the current economic hardships are necessary to prevent the country from collapsing. “I am convinced that, with understanding and support, Tinubu will fix this nation,” he added.
Although Tinubu’s economic policies have drawn criticism for causing significant hardship, Okupe believes that if Tinubu addresses issues like fuel and food crises, he will gain strong backing for a second term in 2027.
“Nigerians are reasonable people who don’t demand too much from their leaders,” Okupe said. “If Tinubu resolves these challenges, he will have overwhelming support, with people declaring, ‘It’s Tinubu or no one else.’”
