The Labour Party (LP), led by Julius Abure, has reported its former National Treasurer, Ms. Oluchi Oparah, to security agencies over alleged impersonation.
According to a statement from the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja, Ms. Oparah has been accused of falsely posing as the LP’s National Woman Leader to extort party members.
Ifoh stated, “It has come to the attention of the Labour Party leadership that Ms. Oluchi Oparah, previously the party’s National Treasurer, has been fraudulently posing as the National Women Leader.” He clarified that Ms. Oparah was suspended indefinitely from the LP in November 2023 due to anti-party activities, a suspension that remains in effect. The statement emphasized that Oparah has never held the position of National Women Leader, nor has she contested for it.
The LP’s official National Woman Leader is Mrs. Dudu Manuga, who has the constitutional mandate to oversee the party’s female members across Nigeria and internationally. According to Ifoh, the former officer’s misrepresentation has caused significant embarrassment for the LP, prompting this public disclaimer. He further noted that Ms. Oparah has been seen at various events claiming to represent the party in a bid to secure financial benefits fraudulently.
The LP has issued a warning to organizations, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), The Kukah Foundation, NGOs, political associations, the National Assembly, and security agencies, advising them to be cautious of Ms. Oparah’s activities. The statement urged any group approached by Ms. Oparah to report her actions to the police immediately.
