The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned the unauthorised use of its official uniforms and equipment by online activist Vincent Martins Otse, commonly known as “VeryDarkMan.”
This condemnation follows the release of a video in which VeryDarkMan appears wearing a police uniform and introduces himself as CSP VeryDarkMan, claiming to be Nigeria’s top online police officer.
In the viral video, he asserts his commitment to “sanitising” social media by challenging oppressors, particularly targeting online vendors.
He claimed that unlike the traditional police, who adhere to extensive protocols, he would swiftly tarnish the reputations of offenders brought before him, using evidence at his disposal.
In response to the video, the NPF announced on Saturday that it has initiated an investigation into the matter.
“The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorised portrayal and has launched a full investigation to ascertain the source of the police gear utilised, as well as the authority under which he acted,” the statement reads.
The police emphasised that the unauthorised use of police uniforms, insignia, or equipment constitutes a criminal offence under Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal
