The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspects accused of vandalizing critical infrastructure, including pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
In a statement on Saturday, the police disclosed that 53 pieces of vandalized pipes were recovered during the operation. The arrests were made on Friday, October 25, following a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the suspects were apprehended after allegedly collaborating to steal sections of the pipelines. Those detained include Adamu Abdullahi, 28, from Bununu Funai in Yobe State; Mohammed Hassan, 25, from Kasuwan Shanu, Potiskum, Yobe State; Yakubu Adamu, 27, from Sabon Layi, Potiskum, Yobe State; and Umar Musa, 40, from Kaduna Road, Abuja. The remaining suspects are Aliyu Muhammad, 28, from Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State; Gabriel Wale, 40, from Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State; and Abubakar Garba, 40, from Angwan Dosa, Kaduna State.
The police described the incident as a significant threat to public safety and an act of economic sabotage impacting the essential infrastructure connecting Adamawa State to southern Nigeria.
The statement added that a comprehensive investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to apprehend additional accomplices involved in the operation.
