Police in Niger State have arrested 16 individuals in Minna on charges of thuggery, public disturbance, and possession of dangerous weapons.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests, reiterating the police’s commitment to maintaining public order.
According to Abiodun, on October 15, 2024, police officers raided a hotel near the PDP Secretariat after receiving intelligence. Among those arrested—ranging in age from 14 to 24—were individuals found with cutlasses, knives, cannabis, and other items. The suspects claimed they were celebrating a birthday and had armed themselves for protection against a rival gang known as the Kafintella lads.
In another operation, a suspect named Shabban Umar was apprehended in Bajego in possession of sharp scissors, while 30 others were arrested in the areas of Angwan-Roka and Maitumbi.
Meanwhile, three individuals were arrested in Suleja on October 14, 2024, for the theft of a tipper truck valued at N30 million. The stolen vehicle was discovered at a workshop where it was being dismantled for sale. Investigations into the suspects are ongoing.
In a separate case, Jamilu Ismail, a suspected phone thief, was arrested in Maje, Suleja, on October 16, 2024. Ismail was caught with three stolen phones after using deceit to steal them and is currently under investigation.
