Drama as Imo lawmaker Ugochinyere faces recall threats

Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu’s tenure as the federal representative for Ideato South in the National Assembly is under threat, as a motion for his recall was introduced by Hon. Okechukwu Udenze of the Imo State House of Assembly.

The motion, which garnered support from community members and political leaders, came during a grand ceremony in Umuchima, where stakeholders had gathered to honour the state’s governor, Hope Uzodimma for his swift intervention in resolving a longstanding erosion issue.

The event, organised to express gratitude to Governor Uzodimma, highlighted his administration’s decisive action in awarding the erosion control project to Craneburg, a leading construction firm, thereby averting the potential isolation of the constituency.

The Ideato South Council of Traditional Rulers, led by their chairman, Eze Ewuzie, voiced the community’s appreciation, emphasising that previous political leaders, including a former governor, senator, and federal lawmakers, had failed to address the crisis.

Stakeholders commended the governor’s dedication to the welfare of the people, noting his impartial approach to governance, as he is not currently seeking political office. However, the event also served as a platform for residents to express their discontent with Hon. Ikeagwonu, accusing him of neglecting the constituency’s needs and focusing on personal political ambitions, often in opposition to Governor Uzodimma’s initiatives.

In a dramatic turn, Hon. Udenze introduced the motion for Ikeagwonu’s recall, which was met with widespread approval from attendees. Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Hon. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, Southeast Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Hon. Ikechukwu Umeh, Imo APC Organising Secretary; and Hon. Nkechi Ugwu, Commissioner for Women Affairs, among others.

The event concluded with calls for unity and collaboration among the people of Ideato Federal Constituency, urging them to focus on collective progress and development for the region.
