‘Third assassination attempt’: Man arrested with firearms outside Trump rally

Authorities in California have confirmed the arrest of a man in possession of illegal firearms shortly before a rally held by former President Donald Trump on Saturday.

At approximately 5 pm, deputies stationed at a security checkpoint near the intersection of Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive in Coachella Valley stopped a black SUV.

Upon investigation, the driver, identified as Vem Miller, a 49-year-old resident of Las Vegas, was found to be carrying a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, all in violation of the law.

Miller was taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A report published on Sky News quoted Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco saying to newsmen on Sunday his deputies probably “stopped the third assassination attempt”.

Sheriff Bianco said his deputies became suspicious when the man approached the perimeter.

“There were many irregularities that popped up,” said Sheriff Bianco at a press conference on Sunday.

His officers “noticed the interior of the vehicle was in disarray and had an obviously fake licence plate”.
