The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Faisal Audu, for allegedly stabbing and killing a hunter, Saheed Awolesi, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to a police report, the incident occurred after the victim, Saheed Awolesi, went hunting on Saturday and did not return home. His wife, Adetutu Awolesi, reported his disappearance to the police, alongside Chief Tajudeen Adetayo, chairman of the Sagamu branch of the Hunters Association.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Faisal Audu had confessed to the crime and was taken into custody. Among the items recovered from him were the victim’s stolen Bajaj motorcycle, a Tecno phone, a cutlass, and a jackknife.
Odutola recounted the timeline, stating, “On October 6, 2024, at around 2:30 PM, Adetutu Awolesi, accompanied by Chief Tajudeen Adetayo, reported that her husband had gone missing since October 5, 2024, when he left for a night hunt around 7:00 PM.”
Following the report, a call was placed to the victim’s phone, which was answered by a detective at Ibafo Police Station. The detective revealed that Faisal Audu had been arrested in possession of the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a Tecno phone, all suspected to have been stolen.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Live-Well Hospital’s mortuary in Sagamu for an autopsy. The case will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to capture any other suspects who may have been involved in the crime.
