Flood: Ogun govt. donates N200 million to Borno

The Benue chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has commended the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) for the transparent conduct of the local government elections.

APC state caretaker chairman, Benjamin Omale, told journalists in Makurdi that the process was going smoothly.

Mr Omale expressed optimism that his party would emerge victorious at the end of the exercise.

“The assessment has been good. The governor has done one of the great things that has ever happened in Benue by enabling one of the best local government elections in the state.

“This is the seventh polling unit that I have visited, and so far everywhere is peaceful and calm, and the turnout is commendable.

“We are very hopeful of victory. We have all the structures and supporters on the ground to achieve the goal,” he said.

Meanwhile, journalists reported that though the turnout was low and some polling units voting commenced late, the exercise was hitch-free.

There was massive deployment of security personnel in polling units, streets, and major highways within the state capital.

In Daudu, Guma Local Government, the exercise was also very peaceful.

Flood: Ogun govt. donates N200 million to Borno

The Ogun government has donated N200 million to its Borno counterpart following the devastating flood which recently ravaged the state, an official said on Saturday.

Kayode Akinmade, the special adviser to Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun on media and strategy, announced the donation in a statement in Abeokuta.

The flood had destroyed property and displaced thousands of residents of the state.

Mt Akinmade quoted Mr Abiodun as saying the gesture was aimed at assisting the flood’s victims and providing immediate relief.

”He had earlier sent messages of condolence to the people and government of Borno.

“The governor had also commended the Borno Government for its prompt response, alongside interventions from the federal government,” the media adviser said.

He further stated that Mr Abiodun had noted that the flood had caused an unimaginable humanitarian crisis in the state.

”It is important for Nigerians to provide succour for the affected people.

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that the flood began after the Alau Dam overflowed due to heavy rainfall, leading to the worst flooding the town had experienced in 30 years.

“According to reports, at least 414,000 people were displaced, and 30 lives lost in the devastating flood in Maiduguri, the Borno capital,” the governor was further quoted to have said.
