Chief Chekwas Okorie, the founding chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and current chairman of its Board of Trustees, has voiced his disappointment regarding the management of the party by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Okorie noted that the party leadership, led by Chief Edozie Njoku, has persistently urged Soludo to refrain from fostering discord within APGA, but these appeals have been ignored.
He highlighted that respected clergymen, traditional leaders, and business figures in Anambra have also called on Soludo to halt his “unprovoked destabilizing campaign” against the party that helped him become governor after two unsuccessful attempts.
Despite a Supreme Court ruling affirming Chief Edozie Njoku as the legitimate National Chairman of APGA, Soludo has yet to acknowledge the decision.
Okorie stressed that APGA represents the first significant Igbo contribution to Nigeria’s political landscape since 1923 and has withstood numerous challenges to its registration. He described the party as “indestructible” and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to enforce disciplinary actions against individuals involved in anti-party activities, including Soludo.
The ongoing APGA crisis has seen Soludo’s faction contesting the trial court’s ruling in the Court of Appeal.
However, Okorie called on Soludo to prioritize the party’s interests over personal ambitions and to strive for peace and reconciliation within APGA.
