The remains of three victims from a building collapse in Kano State were laid to rest on Monday amid scenes of deep sorrow and mourning from family, friends, and acquaintances.
The victims were two children of a tenant living in the collapsed building and a nephew who had been staying with them.
Despite continuous efforts by rescue teams, the family’s eldest daughter, identified as Dmilila, remains missing, four days after the disaster.
The parents of the deceased children, who miraculously survived the collapse, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
The funeral, led by Pastor Michael Eyien, was held at Hamadiyya Cemetery and drew a large crowd of mourners who came to pay their final respects. Many in attendance were overwhelmed with grief as they said goodbye to the victims.
Earlier, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had confirmed the tragic event through its Kano Territorial Office.
NEMA Coordinator Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi reported, “The agency received a distress call at about 2:00 a.m. from a good samaritan, informing us that a two-story building had collapsed at Noman’s Land Quarters, Kano, predominantly occupied by the non-indigenous community.”
NEMA’s investigation revealed that two children died in the collapse, and two others were injured. The incident has left the community in shock, as the search for Dmilila continues while her parents recover from their injuries.
