The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has given the green light for the introduction of a standardized uniform and kits for the Supernumerary Police, widely known as Spy Police. This move, aimed at enhancing professionalism and visibility among these officers, was announced during the official unveiling ceremony on Tuesday.
Representing Egbetokun at the event, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Finance and Administration, DIG Bala Ciroma, emphasized that the new uniforms were part of broader efforts to rejuvenate the Spy Police operations across the country. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Police Act 2020 and is a critical step toward ensuring that Spy Police officers maintain a professional appearance, distinct from the regular police force.
“The redesigned uniforms are intended to prevent the misuse of regular police uniforms and ensure that our Supernumerary Police officers stand out with a unique, professional image,” Egbetokun stated.
He also directed that all Police Training Schools nationwide must now implement this new uniform issuance model for Spy Police personnel. Organizations employing Spy Police officers are required to strictly comply with the new standard.
The Force Quartermaster and other relevant personnel across states will oversee the registration and distribution of the new uniforms, ensuring a smooth transition to this new standard.
