Former BNaija star Mike Edwards wins boxing debut

Former Big Brother Naija star and two-time Nigerian high jump champion, Mike Edwards, has secured a victory in his debut professional boxing match against Jake Cornish.

The bout, held at the Dublin Arena on Saturday, went all rounds, with Edwards emerging victorious by unanimous decision from the judges.

Edwards, who announced his unexpected turn from athletics to professional boxing in April, participated in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division, run by English social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer, Olajide Williams, professionally known as KSI.

In a post on X.com on Saturday, Misfits Boxing wrote, “An impressive MFB debut for #aireyys as he gets the decision victory. Mike Edwards gets his first #MisfitsBoxing win.”

In April that Edwards reiterated his decision to join the cruiserweight division of Misfits Boxing, marking a significant departure from his track and field roots.

He said, “Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on #MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination.”
