Crude oil theft: Reps committee talks tough, vows to bring culprits to book

The House of Representatives Special Committee on Crude Oil Thefts has issued a strong warning that anyone caught sabotaging the country’s oil wealth will face the full wrath of the law.

The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Ado Alhassan Doguwa, said in a statement he signed: “We cannot in any way afford to allow our Tinubu and the APC-led government to continue to wallow in global borrowing as a result of consequential leakages in the production cycle of the oil and gas sector.”

He noted that the unfortunate act is largely caused by youth restiveness and “unacceptable vandalisation of our critical infrastructure by vandals and criminals in the creeks, and this has to stop.”

Doguwa hinted that the committee was mandated by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, to unravel the remote and immediate causes of these problems in the oil and gas sector.

“The committee vows to do all it takes to save the present Tinubu-led administration from these unfortunate happenings in the oil-producing areas. We will make sure the committee brings to book the culprits and their political cohorts,” he stated.
