The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, announced on Wednesday the promotion of 70 academic staff members to the rank of professor and another 60 to the reader (associate professor) cadre.
According to The PUNCH, Prof. Olanipekun highlighted the institution’s recent achievements and future plans. “We have promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of Professor across all departments and faculties. Additionally, 60 staff members have been elevated to the position of readers,” he said.
In the Faculty of Law, the number of professors has increased to seven, up from the previous two. This expansion is part of the university’s commitment to enhancing its academic standards.
Prof. Olanipekun also revealed plans to introduce new programs, including a Doctor of Pharmacy and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
The university is awaiting the results from the National Universities Commission and the relevant professional regulatory agencies. “We are optimistic about the outcomes and hope to commence admissions for these programs soon,” he added.
In another development, the university has postponed its first semester examinations, originally scheduled for August 12, to August 19. Prof.
Olanipekun explained that this decision was made after consultations and was aimed at providing students with additional time to prepare adequately for their exams.
