As protests over the nation’s economic challenges intensify, a joint team of security agencies in Ondo State is preparing a ‘show of force’ in anticipation of increased protest activities scheduled for August 1.
Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya announced this development in a brief statement to journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Monday.
“Good evening everyone, there is going to be a joint operation show of force with all security agencies and a Joint Press Conference tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Police Headquarters,” the message read.
Although the statement did not specify the planned activities, it followed a recent directive from the police command requiring protesters to submit details of their demonstrations, including the locations where they intend to gather. This is to prevent the protests from being disrupted by criminals.
The state police command explained that this directive is in line with instructions from Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. Providing these details will enable security forces to prepare and ensure adequate security at the designated protest sites ahead of the event
