The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rainy conditions across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms for Monday affecting parts of Kebbi, Katsina, Borno, Bauchi, and Taraba States.
Thunderstorms are also expected later in the day over parts of Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, and Kebbi states.
The agency anticipated moderate rains in the morning over Nassarawa, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Niger.
In the afternoon and evening, moderate thunderstorms with light rains are expected in Niger, FCT, Nassarawa, Kogi, and Plateau States. Rainfall is also forecasted for Cross River and Akwa Ibom in the morning.
For Tuesday, NiMet expects morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara. Thunderstorms are anticipated later in the day over Bauchi, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kebbi, with moderate rains expected in Niger and Kwara during the morning.
In the afternoon and evening, moderate thunderstorms and rains are predicted for Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue, and Kogi, while cloudy skies are expected in the southern region in the morning. Intermittent rains are forecasted for Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Borno, Katsina, and Kebbi, with thunderstorms expected later in the day in Taraba, Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara. Cloudy conditions are anticipated over the North Central region in the morning.
Thunderstorms are expected to affect the entire region as the day progresses, with cloudy skies in the southern regions. Moderate rains with possible strong winds are forecasted, which may lead to urban flooding in major cities.
Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas and follow safety advisories. NiMet also recommends that the public and airline operators check for updated weather reports to aid in planning and operations.
