Aiyedatiwa’s govt must be transparent in spending money -NNPP

Hon. Oluwatosin Ayeni, spokesman for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate, has urged the Ondo State Government to ensure transparency and accountability in its use of public funds.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Akure, Ayeni expressed concern over the government’s lack of transparency regarding billions received from the Federal Government over the past seven months. He criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration for failing to address the needs of the state’s residents effectively.

Ayeni pointed out that the grant from the Federal Government should have been publicly disclosed, but the government has remained silent on the issue. He stressed that transparency and accountability are essential principles of governance, which, according to him, the current administration has clearly overlooked.

“This is high level of incompetence,” he said.

“The FG released the NGcares fund to alleviate the rate of poverty in Nigeria and the state government must fully account for the sum of ₦13,925,262,355.18,” he said.

Ayeni alleged that Federal Government had allocated various funds in billions of naira to the state since Aiyedatiwa assumed office as governor, yet there was nothing to show for it.

He criticized the government for remaining silent on numerous financial issues affecting the state.
“This is more reason the Federal Government must ensure the implementation of the said fund in the State and must be broadcast

“We reiterate that the people of Ondo State deserve better governance and there is need for competent leadership to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the state.

“The call for transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds is crucial for the development and progress of Ondo State,” he stated.
