Female visitor arrested for smuggling drugs into Kuje custodial centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, has arrested a woman named Precious Yusuf for attempting to smuggle drugs into the medium-security custodial center in Kuje, Abuja.

According to a statement released by Command Public Relations Officer Samson Duza on Wednesday in Abuja, Precious Yusuf disguised herself as a visitor to an inmate at the Kuje custodial center on Tuesday, July 9.

During a routine search, officers discovered suspected Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs concealed in food packs within a carton.

“The culprit confessed to having been sent to bring this to an inmate of the custodial center,” Duza stated.

Duza quoted FCT Command Controller Ibrahim Usman, who ordered that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Usman warned drug peddlers against attempting to smuggle illicit substances into custodial centers under the guise of visits, stating that officers remain vigilant to thwart such efforts.

He also called on the public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Service in its reformatory efforts to ensure society’s safety, assuring the public of the secure custody of legally interned individuals.
