EURO 2024

-In the 119th minute, Mikel Merino has scored the third-latest winning goal in a UEFA European Championship match (118:52), after Michel Platini for France v Portugal at EURO 1984 (118:53) and Artem Dovbyk for Ukraine v Sweden at EURO 2020 (120:36).

-The host country has not won the Euros since France in 1984.

-Only Italy (10) have gone to the extra-time in more games at the European Championship than Spain (9) in the history of the competition, with the Iberian side progressing in six of the previous eight.

-At 21 years and 63 days, Florian Wirtz has become Germany’s youngest goalscorer in a European Championship knockout match.

-Germany have scored four goals from substitutes at Euro 2024 – more than any other team.

-Lamine Yamal is the first teenager to ever provide three assists at a single European Championship.

-Turkish government have released a statement saying the UEFA ban for Merih Demiral is evidence of “trend of prejudice against foreigners in some European countries”.

-Spain are the first side to have 4+ shots on target from outside the box in a single half at EURO 2024. While no side has had more shots in total from outside the box in a single half at the tournament than Spain’s eight in the opening 45 minutes vs. Germany.

-Chelsea agree deal to sign 21-year-old Portuguese talent Renato Veiga from FC Basel for €14-15M. NO sell-on clause or add-on. Chelsea see him playing as left back, centre back and midfielder. Medicals in the next hours.

-Serhou Guirassy’s move to Dortmund is on the verge of being complete after positive talks this afternoon. Medical expected to take place next week. Final details to be sorted.

-Chelsea have appointed Seyi Olofinjana into a talent management role covering Africa. The remit of the new role at Chelsea will cover recruitment recommendations across the region, working in conjunction with a newly-appointed scout that will cover Africa.
