Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, emphasized that Nigeria’s challenges, though significant, are not insurmountable.
He stressed that with the right commitment, attitude, and leadership, the country has a better chance of overcoming its difficulties.
During a courtesy visit by Kano State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, and Commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Tajuddeen Othman, Sanusi noted that other nations have faced and overcome worse situations.
He pointed out that while Nigeria’s current challenges were inherited, dwelling on past grievances without taking action is unproductive.
“The nation faces inherited challenges, both at the national and state levels. But lamenting the past won’t help; we must act. I’m confident that the people of Kano, given our history and resilience, can overcome these challenges and move forward,” Sanusi stated.
He encouraged the leadership to remain steadfast and proactive. “Leaders must stand on their feet, not remain on their knees. Together, we can overcome these challenges and make them history. With the right attitude, commitment, leadership, and support from everyone, these problems are surmountable. Nations have faced worse and prevailed. Even in Nigeria, regions once ravaged by terrorism are recovering, with Allah’s guidance,” he said.
Sanusi praised the Kano State government’s initiatives in education, particularly for girls, highlighting that addressing girl child education can mitigate issues like child marriage, antenatal care, malnutrition, and intergenerational poverty.
He called on the private sector and philanthropists to support government efforts in building schools, school feeding programs, and transportation investments.
He also commended the Abba Yusuf-led administration for settling pension and gratuity arrears amounting to N11 billion, relieving many pensioners from hardship and poverty.
Earlier, Commissioner Dantiye outlined the administration’s achievements in education, health, and the payment of retirement benefits.
The visit reaffirmed the collaborative efforts between traditional leaders and the government to address key issues affecting Kano’s populace.
Commissioner Dantiye was accompanied by Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, management staff of the Ministry of Information, and heads of agencies under the ministry.
