Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the appointment of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Wale Abbas, as the new Chairman of the Amotekun Corps.
A statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawape Rasheed, announced that Mr. Abbas replaces General Bashir Adewinbi (Rtd), whose tenure ended last month.
Additionally, Hon. Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Internal Security and a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, has been appointed as the new Corps Commander of the Amotekun Corps. Omoyele is also a former Chief Security Officer to Governor Adeleke.
Retired AIG Abbas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science and a Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy, both from the University of Lagos. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as part of the 16th cadet ASP course and trained at the elite police academy in Kaduna.
During his career, he served in various capacities, including Unit Commander of the 16 Squadron (PMF), Area Commander in Mubi, Adamawa State, and Lagos State Railway Command. He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the State CID Delta State, Area Commander ‘C’ in Surulere, Lagos State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in multiple states. He was promoted to Commissioner of Police in 2022, serving in Benue and Delta States before being promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police prior to his retirement.
Retired Army Captain Benedict Olusoji Akanni remains the Field Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
The appointments, conveyed in letters by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, dated July 3rd, took immediate effect.
