JAMB uncovers 3,000 fake graduates, bemoans illegal admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has discovered 3,000 cases of individuals falsely claiming to be university graduates without ever attending university.

This finding comes as JAMB continues to combat the issue of illegal admissions by some institutions, which has been a national embarrassment.

According to The PUNCH, JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this in a report published in the board’s bulletin in Abuja. He noted that these fraudulent graduates never attended classes but claim to have earned degrees.

Oloyede stressed that illegal admissions harm the nation and urged institutions to follow proper admission procedures.

Oloyede stressed that illegal admissions harm the nation and urged institutions to follow proper admission procedures.

“Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases.

“Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation,” the bulletin read.

The issue of illegal admissions has over the years been at the forefront of JAMB’s priorities.
