The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday that it raided a ‘drug party’ in Abuja, arresting 60 individuals.
According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the party, held on Friday and dubbed “Go Hard or Go Home, Pick Your Poison,” took place at an apartment in Sun City Estate, Federal Capital Territory. The suspects included 25 males and 35 females, and the event was organized by Stanley Ikechukwu, who was also arrested at the scene.
Babafemi revealed that six suspects, namely Victoria Adoga, Hamza Yari, Joanne Essein, Socchima Valentine, Jago Imole, and Charles Indobuibisi, were found with varying quantities of ecstasy and cannabis.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, directed the unconditional release of 20 suspects who tested negative for drugs. The remaining 33 individuals who tested positive for illicit substances were released on bail and are required to report to the FCT command of the agency on Monday for treatment and counseling.
In another operation, four suspects—Endurance Okon, 24; Joseph Michael, 23; Ovoco Bright, 43; and Goday Abanum, 23—were arrested in a forest in Ugun, Igueben Local Government Area of Edo. This raid, conducted on Saturday, June 29, led to the destruction of 18,632.22 kilograms of cannabis on 7.452 hectares of farmland.
Additionally, Babafemi reported that on Friday, June 28, NDLEA operatives recovered 40.32 kg of Loud, a potent imported strain of cannabis, from a vehicle on Lekki-Ikoyi road after the driver abandoned the vehicle upon noticing the operatives.
The NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities across the country, targeting schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities. Recent areas visited for WADA enlightenment include First Technical University in Ibadan, Government Day Secondary School in Yola, and Ezeike High School in Nibo, Anambra, among others.
