A 40-year-old security guard, David Michael, appeared before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan on Friday, accused of stealing solar lamps and footballs from Onireke High School.
Michael, who worked at the school and did not provide an address, faced charges of theft but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Philip Amusan informed the court that the alleged theft occurred on May 21 at around 7:00 p.m. Amusan stated that Michael stole six solar lamps valued at N900,000 and footballs worth N18,000 from the school.
Additionally, Michael was accused of abandoning his duty post without the school’s permission and without proper handover.
These actions are said to violate Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Court President Moji Aworemi granted Michael bail, setting the amount at N500,000, with two sureties of the same sum.
Aworemi adjourned the case till June 27 for hearing.
