Gunmen attack police station in Ebonyi

 

Unknown gunmen on Tuesday attacked Ohaukwu Police Division in Ezzamgbo, headquarters of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered there was no casualty as policemen on duty were said to have gallantly fought back, and repelled the attack.

The assailants however set some operational vehicles attached to the station ablaze.

The gunmen, said to be eight in number, were said to have come in a bus and started shooting, causing panic in the area.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, said no life was lost but that the attackers burnt some police vehicles.

He added that the incident disrupted the distribution of palliatives going on in the council headquarters.

“Everyone, including the chairman of the council ran for their lives to avoid injuries from the gunshots”, a source close to the incident, said.

Ebonyi State Police Command has not confirmed the incident as at the time of reporting as the spokesperson, ASP Ukandu Joshua, did not pick calls put across to him.
