The Kogi State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal in Abuja upheld the election of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress as governor on Monday.
The three-member panel, chaired by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, dismissed the petition filed by Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party. The tribunal found that Ajaka failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his claims, as mandated by law.
Citing Section 135 of the Electoral Act, the tribunal noted that Ajaka did not demonstrate that the alleged irregularities were significant enough to affect the overall election results.
In a unanimous decision, the tribunal stated that Ajaka did not present credible evidence required by law to support his petition.
The court reiterated that it is the petitioner’s responsibility to present evidence of substantial inconsistencies and to show how these irregularities could have altered the election’s outcome.
