The ongoing governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has been reportedly marred by irregularities, Chieftains of the party who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed to our Correspondents on Saturday.
It was reliably gathered that the election was not conducted in some areas as electoral materials were conspicuously absent at election venues. This is even as Starnews NG was hinted that results were written in some Local Government Areas in favor of a particular aspirant, although the name of the aspirant was enveloped against public knowledge.
A chieftain of the party from Okitipupa Local Government Area, who declined to be mentioned, said the election did not hold in the Southern Senatorial District as duly monitored.
He said, “I am telling you confidently that the primary election didn’t hold, results were fabricated for a popular aspirant. The supporters of the aspirant only came chanted his name and left, this is not healthy for our democracy”
“No primary election in Ilaje local government. Election materials and people to conduct the primary election are not visible in Ilaje local government.
“Only what took place is the supporters of the aspirant holding his picture and singing different songs of victory even when election did not hold in the venue.
Another source in the Southern district, in a telephone interview, said “People came out with the intention to vote, but no electoral materials, no party Register. The situation is the same everywhere. The ward returning officers were Coordinators of an Aspirant.
Our correspondent who observed the exercise in the Northern District, reported that the election was conducted only in some areas. The report from the North indicates that election was conducted in the Akoko regions where party members trooped out to exercise their franchise.
“No election in Ose Local Government Area, but election was conducted in places in the Akoko area,” it was learnt.
Though a journalist who hinted Starnews NG on the development in Ondo Central Senatorial District, noted that “it was an audible election, not physically conducted in the milieu.
Meanwhile, a top Chieftain of the party told our correspondent that the Afenifere visit to President Bola Tinubu was not only on a issues of national interest, but also to beg the President to rally support for an Aspirant.
The Chieftain said, “One of the old key players in Ondo politics who just left my house told me that today’s primaries has been decided in favour of the incumbent.
“The deal was sealed at the insistence of the visit of Pa Fasoranti to the President on Thursday as the Afenifere leader asked the president to do him the last favour of allowing an aspirant to fly.
According to the informant, the election results will be announced without any voting anywhere. Truly as I speak, no information has been given as to the pattern of voting or the list of voters.
