A 32-year-old estate agent, Seun Oladipupo, was presented before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday, accused of defrauding three individuals seeking accommodation of N725,000.
Oladipupo, a resident of No. 12 Olokode St., Alakuko, Lagos State, faces charges of fraud and stealing, totaling two counts. He entered a plea of not guilty.
The prosecutor, Samuel Mishozunnu, informed the court that the defendant committed the alleged offenses at his residence on December 29, 2023.
Mishozunnu said that the defendant collected N725,000 from the complainants— Ajoke Yahaya, Sola Kosoko, and Kareem Ismail—to provide them with apartments but failed to do so.
He said all efforts made by the complainants to get back their money proved abortive.
Mishozunnu said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while section 314 provides two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to steal.
The magistrate, F.D. Hughes, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case until April 26 for mention.
