Ogun govt commences evacuation of beggars

The Ogun State government has commenced the evacuation and rehabilitation of mentally unstable destitute individuals who have been causing disruptions in various communities across the state.

Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, made this announcement in Abeokuta on Friday. She emphasized that the initiative aims to clean up the environment and ensure the safety of residents.

Adeleye expressed concern over the growing number of destitute individuals roaming the streets in urban areas. She stressed the importance of the ministry taking prompt action to address this issue and minimize the risks it poses to society.

The commissioner noted that the ministry’s rehabilitation department has conducted assessments across all 20 local government areas of the state to remove vagrants from the streets and improve public safety.

The commissioner stated that after receiving medical care, this group of people would be properly rehabilitated and united with their families.

“Let me advise the good people of Ogun to ensure they maintain social and mental health and also refrain from activities that can lead to mental disorders, such as drug abuse, among others.

“I want to assure you that, as a government, we won’t relent in our resolve to ensure the wellbeing of our residents,” Adeleye said.

The commissioner assured that those picked would undergo medical examinations to determine their conditions and ascertain the real miscreants from those in disguise.
