Adejuwon Salami, aged 25, appeared before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, charged with assaulting police officers.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, stands accused of assault.
The police prosecutor, Sodiq Adeniyi, stated that the incident occurred on April 2 at approximately 11:30 a.m. in the Aba Iyamedi Area, Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Allegedly, the defendant assaulted police officers who were carrying out their official duties and resisted arrest.
Adeniyi said the offence contravened section 187(b) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Adeyinka Opaleke, urged the court to grant him bail, promising he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 16 for a hearing.
