30yr-old man docked over alleged N1.8m fraud

A 30-year-old man named Israel Makinde was presented before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan by the Police on Wednesday, facing charges related to an alleged N1.8 million fraud.

Makinde, whose residential address was not disclosed, was accused of obtaining money under false pretense and theft.

According to the Prosecutor, Philip Amusan, the defendant allegedly committed the offense between November and December 2023 in the Mokola area of Ibadan.

Amusan claimed that Makinde deceived Peter Ahonkhai into giving him the N1.8 million with the intention to defraud him.

The prosecutor explained that Makinde obtained the money from Ahonkhai under the pretence of branding some pace setter buses for advertisement, which he (Makinde) never intended to do.

He said the offence contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till April 23 for hearing.
