Former OAUTHC Workers Protest Over Employment Test

Former employees of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) staged a protest on Friday at the hospital premises in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The protest arose from management’s refusal to rescind the decision to terminate their employment.

Over 1500 workers were let go by the Federal Government due to alleged recruitment irregularities. The protesters voiced their opposition to a management directive announcing an upcoming suitability test for certain job positions.

In a bid to halt the test, demonstrators barricaded the hospital’s main entrances, disrupting both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Samson Falope, a former staff member, highlighted the circular’s announcement of an examination scheduled for March 9th at the Command Day Secondary School in Ede, Osun State.

He stated, “What we discovered was that, the circular for the conduct of recruitment under the June 2022 recruitment waiver has been released, which led to the protest. The ministry in charge had been notified, the House of Representatives and the National Assembly were aware too. All we are waiting for is their intervention and resolution. We are hopeful that the examination would be suspended indefinitely.’’

The Public Relations Officer of OAUTHC, Ms Kemi Fasoto, said that the examination would be conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as scheduled.
