2024: Ondo Youths accuse Odimayo of bribing colleagues with 500k to disparage Aiyedatiwa

Ondo Youth Progressive Forum, has accused a member of the House of Representatives, representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Hon. Jimi Odimayo, of mobilising his colleagues to orchestrate an attack on the governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa through a disparaging open letter to the President.

Starnews NG reports that Ondo Caucus of the Federal House of Representatives Lawmakers on Friday, in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, accused the governor of disrespecting his late principal, while urging him to to call Governor Aiyedatiwa to order.

In a letter signed by six out of the 9 lawmakers comprising Adesida Abiodun (Akure North/South), Timehin Adelegbe (Owo/Ose), Festus Ayodele (Ileoluji- Okeigbo/Odigbo), Ojogo Kimikanboh(Ilaje/ Ese- Odo), Odimayo John (Okitipupa/Irele) and Adegboyega Adefarati (Akoko South West/ South East) Federal Constituencies, the lawmakers warned of dire consequences for the APC if Governor Aiyedatiwa does not retrace his steps.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the leader of the caucus, Adesida called on Tinubu to wade into the matter and save the face of the ruling party, particularly with the governorship election due in September.

They accused Aiyedatiwa of making official decisions that gave him away as a man with little or no respect for the legacies left behind by the late Akeredolu.

They also accused him of hobnobbing with known political enemies of Akeredolu, adding that the person appointed as Deputy Governor meted out a lot of pain to the former Governor.

But in a swift reaction, the group who erected many billboards in Ondo State to support the presidential campaign of the president in 2023, accused the lawmakers of taking 500,000 bribe from Hon. Odimayo to disparage the state governor in their desperation to support Odimayo’s governorship ambition against Aiyedatiwa.

In a letter signed by its president, Ayodeji Abiodun, and Secretary, Olumide Ebeyuwa, the group on Friday advised the lawmakers to learn from their colleagues, Hon. Abiola Makinde, Ondo West/Ondo East and Donald Ojogo of Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituencies who refused to sign the letter for a pot of porridge.

Starnews NG reports that they described the action of the Lawmakers as a desperate move
to portray Governor Aiyedatiwa as a bad person before the President.

“The disparaging open letter by six Ondo Lawmakers of the Federal House of Representatives against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was sponsored by Hon. Jimmy Odimayo in desperation to discredit the governor to advance his governorship ambition.

“Odimayo bribed his colleagues with the sum of N500,000 each to impugn the image of Governor Aiyedatiwa and portray him as a bad person before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s primary.

“Odimayo who was elected for quality representation, but has not done anything tangible before he started pursuing governorship ambition in less down two months in the House of Representatives, should be ashamed of himself for  using money meant for his constituents to prosecute governorship ambition.

“This was how he took N100m from the government but went to procure dangerous rice and repackaged them for his constituents as Christmas and New Year gift in his desperation to profit from the money.

“Thank God for his other colleagues, Hon. Abiola Makinde, Ondo West/Ondo East and Donald Ojogo of Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituencies who refused to sign the letter for a pot of porridge. These are men of integrity that the like of Hon. Abiodun Adesida and his team sponsored by Odimayo should have emulated, but for peanut of N500,000, and parochial political gains, they sold their integrity.

“The earliest they know that a new Governor is now in charge in Ondo State, the better for them”, the statement said.
