Tinubu Asks NASS To Nominate 35 Lawmakers Into ECOWAS Parliament

President Bola Tinubu has asked the National Assembly to nominate 35 lawmakers to represent Nigeria at the 6th Legislature of the Ecowas Parliament, from 2024 to 2028.

In a letter to the upper chamber read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, President Bola Tinubu who doubles as Chairman of the ECOWAS, says the 5th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament will end on March 8th 2024.

ECOWAS Supplementary Act requires the names and particulars of the elected representatives to be transmitted to the President of the ECOWAS Commission and Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament at least one month before the end of the legislature, which is the 7th of February.

Tinubu says the ECOWAS Commission has provided guidelines for the conduct of elections, which include the need for each member state to reflect, a political configuration of the country, and also ensure at least 30 per cent female representation in the country’s delegation.
