Ondo State Renaissance Group, USA Chapter, has revealed that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has a hidden agenda concerning the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Recall that the APC national publicity secretary, Felix Morka declared on Thursday that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will not receive an automatic ticket to be the flagbearer for the party.
Morka said the party is committed to democracy, adding that all aspirants must earn their nominations.
Reacting to this, the group in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Adeyemi Odomode, popularly known as LaCrown, knocked Morka for claiming that the party is progressive.
LaCrown raised concerns about the party’s historical practices, citing the former governor Akeredolu’s unilateral decisions on candidate nominations in Ondo State.
He questioned the validity of Morka’s comparison to Lagos politics, emphasizing the concentration of power within Akeredolu’s regime.
LaCrown criticized elders who, instead of advocating for a smooth transition, sought intervention from President Tinubu, inadvertently contributing to a perception of an autocratic style.
The loyalty vote from the governor’s appointees was also scrutinized, with doubts raised about the party’s genuine commitment to progressiveness.
LaCrown pointed out the legislature’s failure to exercise checks and balances, particularly during the attempt to impeach the deputy governor.
While APC emerged as an alternative to PDP’s perceived arrogance, LaCrown argued that leaders seem more focused on personal gains than genuine leadership and good governance.
He urged the party to prove its dedication to progressiveness by considering an automatic ticket for Governor Aiyedatiwa.
“The truth of the matter is that there’s no more Akeredolu cabal to decide who runs for governor in the forthcoming election. If the party likes Aiyedatiwa, give him the automatic ticket. That’s what a progressive party should do. However, the party leadership at the national level seems to have a hidden agenda. We’re watching with keen interest.
“APC has the opportunity to establish itself as a progressive party, but so far, we haven’t seen that. Even the choice of Felix Morka as the spokesperson of the party is questionable. So, how dare him talk about APC, being progressive and/or democratic?”, the statement reads”,
