The recent bombing of Tundun Biri village in Igabi local government area of Kaduna state by the Nigerian army is a serious concern and national calamity to the nation.
The excuse given by the military is unacceptable and this calls for thorough investigation to ascertain the root cause of the incident.
Lives of Nigerians matter the most as they must be protected by government at all levels as enshrined in the constitution of the country.
Nigerians should not be killed for unjust cause all in the name of fighting terrorists. If proper intelligence had been carried out, the mishap would not have happened.
Lives are no longer valued in a country like ours with killings happening every now and then from terrorists, to bandits, unknown gunmen and now the military. Who then will protect the poor masses?
The assurance given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set up an investigative panel on the incident is commendable. But will the panel report be revealed to the public and justice served accordingly? Our leaders are so fond of making empty promises which later yield no result.
It is unheard of that the security forces meant to protect us are the ones killing us. What a country we have!
The decision of the Senate to donate their December salary to the victims of the bomb attack is a good gesture. But we hope it would not just be an empty promise meant to attract public sympathy and not being fulfilled.
We sympathize with the victims of the attack and pray for an end to such an ugly incident in our dear country.
Nonetheless, the Nigerian army should unravel the mystery behind such a mishap and deal with it squarely. It is intolerable, and future occurrences should be avoided. Nigerians need protection and it is their right to live!
