The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dismissing his concerns of Nigeria slipping into a one-party state as “baseless and irrational fears.”
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, lashed out at Atiku’s assertions, in a statement, asserting that the APC’s actions aim to strengthen democracy.
Morka accused Atiku of a distorted vision due to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) repeated defeats at the polls.
Morka highlighted the PDP’s alleged history of “brigandage, impunity, and profligacy” during its 16-year rule, contrasting it with the “APC’s commitment to electoral reforms and technological innovations fostering transparency.”
The APC further criticized the PDP’s internal contradictions and the recent controversy surrounding the candidacy of Senator Samuel Anyawu in Imo state, accusing the opposition party of flouting due process.
While urging Atiku to focus on rejuvenating the PDP, the APC welcomed his call for opposition unity in engaging in politics.
“We urge Atiku to concentrate on repairing his damaged political psyche and attempt to revive his comatose PDP and leave APC out of their combined predicament.
“However, we welcome the former Vice President’s charge to opposition political parties to rally together to engage in opposition politics,” the ruling party said.
