A social media user recently voiced his frustration on X platform regarding the exorbitant bride price his cousin had to pay to marry his partner.
In a community in Imo state, the cousin reportedly paid a whopping sum of 1.5 million naira as the bride price.
The reason behind this exorbitant demand was that the bride’s family considered their daughter a graduate, thus requiring a higher payment.
The netizen expressed his disappointment, stating that his cousin is a medical doctor and surgeon, but it made no difference to the bride’s family.
In addition to the 1.5 million naira, the cousin had to pay an extra 60,000 naira to obtain the bride’s family’s list of required items.
The netizen seemed dismayed by the emphasis placed on the bride’s education and the subsequent increase in the bride price.
