The leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and its President General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has berated the United States (US) for supporting Israel in the ongoing attack on Palestinians in Gaza.
The Israeli military has been besieging Gaza since Palestine’s Islamic terrorist group, Hamas, launched an offensive attack on the former.
Reacting, however, in a statement issued on Monday, which was jointly signed by Prof. Salisu Shehu and Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN), the NSCIA Deputy Secretary General and National Legal Adviser, respectively, the Islamic group in Nigeria expressed deep sorrow over the brutality of the attacks and deemed the appalling assaults on civilians as regrettable, thus calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities against Gaza.
The council emphasized the importance of maintaining consistent standards in the establishment of lasting peace. While peace is desirable, it stressed that peace without justice would only lead to future crises.
Furthermore, the council expressed disappointment in the United States for openly siding with Israel, despite its brazen and continuous aggression and massacre of the Palestinians for nearly eight decades.
In light of this, the council urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to follow the example it set during the apartheid era in South Africa and, for the sake of humanity and justice, to unequivocally support the helpless victims of ongoing Israeli persecution, massacre, oppression, and suppression.
