General Gowon’s Aide Speaks Over Trending Death Report

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has vehemently denied widespread rumours on social media suggesting his death.

The unfounded reports had caused significant concern among Nigerians until his aide, Adeyeye E. Ajayi, and former Delta State governorship candidate, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, confirmed that the General was alive and in good health.

The rumours of General Gowon’s death had been trending across various social media platforms, leading to widespread speculation and anxiety among the public.

However, late Monday night, Ajayi released a brief statement reassuring the nation that General Gowon is “still around and well” and emphasised that the former Head of State is in no hurry to leave this world.

In a separate statement, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, who previously served as the Minister of State for Education, dispelled the rumours as the “handiwork of mischief makers.”

He disclosed that General Gowon is not only alive but also in good health and currently in London.

His words:

“I, Gbagi, just spoke with him. I hereby refute the rumour of the death of my friend, General Gowon.

“He has communicated to Nigerians that he is still very much around, hale and hearty. Gowon is alive.”

The former Chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and misinformation about General Gowon’s death, emphasising the importance of verifying information before accepting it as fact
