New Jerusalem Community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo state is grappling with a catastrophic flood crisis as the rainy season rages on.
The deluge has left the entire community submerged, rendering all roads impassable.
Community leader, Mr. Eleibughinghan Ogonntibi, who is also a senior citizen and Ministering pastor of Pere-Egbe Assembly in New Jerusalem Zion, expressed his dismay over the lack of government intervention during these recurring flood disasters.
A retired civil servant, Ogonntibi highlighted the severity of the flooding, describing it as immensely destructive.
Numerous homes now lie underwater, and visitors are unable to access the community.
Tragically, the church Ogonntibi pastors is also submerged, alongside countless houses.
He lamented that for the past decade, this has been an annual ordeal, with promised palliatives often falling into the wrong hands.
Buildings have been decimated, and documents and valuables exceeding 10 million naira in value have been lost.
To endure this crisis, residents have resorted to elevating their beds to sleep above the rising waters.
Transportation costs have surged, with a steep 500 naira charge to cross over to the major town in Arogbo.
Frustrated by the lack of government aid, the community is left with no choice but to endure these hardships and rely on their faith.
Despite their vigilance, Mr. Ogonntibi emphasized the need for government intervention to prevent further devastation.
He pleaded for the government’s attention, urging them to supply the necessary resources to combat the recurring floods that have afflicted New Jerusalem Community for a decade.
In their time of need, the residents are looking to the government for assistance, hoping that this dire situation will finally be addressed.
