The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has ruled that Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s double nomination as a vice-presidential candidate and senatorial candidate was not intentional and at such cannot be used to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This suit was filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the party had argued that Tinubu was improperly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for nominating Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the election.
APM claimed that Shettima was still the APC Senatorial candidate for Borno Central District on July 14th when he accepted the nomination for vice-presidential candidate.
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal ruled that the case was a pre-election matter so it therefore lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the Suit.
The court further stated that the petitioner (APM), ought to have filed the case of double nomination before the Federal High Court within 14 days from the day the cause of action arose so the issue is statue barred.
