Rivers Gov uncovers those responsible for varsity hostel robbery, sexual assault

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said those who masterminded the raid on female hotels and carted away valuable items at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt were students of the institution.

Fubara stated this while speaking to newsmen during a visit to the university, following the incident and consequent protest by the female students.

Hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers had invaded three hostels occupied by female students near the university back gate early on Thursday, and carted away mobile phones, laptops and other valuables, while four students were allegedly injured.

While condemning the attack, the governor said the perpetrators must be fished out and prosecuted.

While condemning the attack, the governor said the perpetrators must be fished out and prosecuted.

He stated, “Honestly, I was really bitter that such a thing would be happening in this jet age. Somebody broke into the female hostel to go and molest girls.

“I said I won’t just send my aides and the police, I will come and see things myself and assess the situation.

“Let me assure you that we must get the culprits. And I’m sure they are not people outside. They are also students here.”

He said the state government would ensure adequate treatment for the students injured during the attack and assured that necessary measures would be put in place to prevent a recurrence.

“For those students who are victims, I will make sure that they get the required medical attention. And we are going to make sure it doesn’t repeat itself.

“I will also liaise with the school authority to improve the security situation,” Governor Fubara said.

Meanwhile, Sir Fubara has said Rivers people should expect more development projects across sectors beyond the completed projects listed to celebrate his first one hundred days in office.

He made the promise after an inspection tour of some projects in four local government areas of the State, saying he was personally certifying the state of completion of the projects to ensure that the desired quality was delivered to the beneficiaries.
