Popular skit maker and actor, Debo Adedayo, popularly known as MrMacaroni has criticised Nigerian Senators following a viral video of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, saying that ‘token’ has been sent to the lawmakers to enjoy their holiday.
Tribune Online reports on Wednesday that the Senate President, while addressing his colleagues before the adjournment motion was moved, mentioned that money had been sent by the Clerk of the National Assembly to the senators for their holidays.
“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” Akpabio was quoted in the viral video.
The video has, however, generated criticisms from Nigerians who described the lawmakers as unbothered by the current situation in the country.
Reacting to the development on Twitter, MrMacaroni, an activist, said it is morally wrong for the legislators to ask Nigerians to make sacrifices due to the economic reality of the country while they are busy sharing money for holiday among themselves.
According to him, Nigerian leaders ought to be the ones making sacrifices for the country, but the opposite is the case.
He wondered why poor Nigerians have to bear the brunt of the expensive lifestyle of the lawmakers who don’t understand that leadership is about service, selflessness, and sacrifice.
He tweeted, “These are the Leaders that have asked struggling Nigerians to make sacrifices if they want things to work in the country.
“So while Nigerians are going through unbearable hardship, our leaders are sending money to themselves to enjoy holidays.
“Who are those that should be making sacrifices if not for our leaders?
Do our leaders understand that leadership is about service, selfishness, and sacrifice??
““Why do the poor people of Nigeria have to pay for the luxurious lifestyle of the leaders?? Why???
This isn’t leadership!!!”
