Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC today staged a peaceful protest at the State Secretariat to press home their demands from the state government.
The workers who barricaded the entrance of the Secretariat demanded that Governor Seyi Makinde address them on issues relating to their welfare.
Some of the issues raised by the workers include: Non-implementation of minimum wage for state workers, denied leave bonuses, denied cooperative fund, non-payment of pensioners allowances, non-payment of gratuities of those who recently retired, denied in promotion and also upward review of workers’ salaries due to increase in fuel price.
After some hours of protest with no response from the Governor, state NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins addressed the workers, saying the leadership of the labour unions would meet at the NLC state headquarters to deliberate on the way forward, noting that the workers would still converge at the State Secretariat tomorrow for another peaceful protest until they get a response from the Governor.
