The government of Kwara State has decided to overturn the previous directive that instructed civil servants to work only three days a week following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a recent communication from the Head of Service, dated June 26, 2023, and addressed to the Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the state government has mandated that civil servants return to the regular five-day working week starting from July 10.
Mr. Okedare Adeyinka, acting on behalf of the Head of Service, signed the letter, explaining that this decision is aimed at allowing the federal government and organized labor to collaboratively devise more effective measures to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal.
The statement states, “In light of this, it has become necessary to revert back to the previous arrangement, where civil servants observe five working days until an agreement is reached between the government and labor unions.”
“I am hereby instructed to notify all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) that the reduction in working days has been rescinded. Consequently, all employees are required to adhere to the regular five working days per week, effective from July 10, 2023.”
“Workers who were not initially affected by the temporary reduction in working days will receive stipends as a gesture of appreciation.”
