Fire Razes Popular Hotel In Anambra

A well-known leisure establishment called Sopurum Hotel, situated in the Nkwelle community of Onitsha, Anambra State, has been consumed by a fierce fire.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, although reports suggest that it erupted at about 4:30 am on Monday.

To address the emergency, firefighting teams from both Delta and Anambra states were promptly dispatched to the location and are currently working vigorously to combat the raging flames.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police, has confirmed the occurrence of the fire incident. He reassured the public that the situation is currently being handled and brought under control.

“At around 4:30 am on Monday, the fire broke out, and upon receiving the information, our officers were immediately mobilized to the scene. The area has been cordoned off to prevent any potential acts of vandalism,” stated Ikenga.

Furthermore, he added, “Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The fire service personnel are present at the site, efficiently managing the situation and extinguishing the fire.”

Efforts to contact Martins Agbili, the Fire Chief of Anambra State, for his comments on the matter have been unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
