—Threaten to boycott school examination slated for tomorrow
Workers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo state under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have threatened to boycott the school examination scheduled to hold on June 13, 2023, over 13 months of unpaid salaries.
In a communique signed by Arikawe Ade, the union’s chairman, and Fapetu Damilola, the ASUP secretary, the lecturers said they would not participate in the first-semester examination of the institution slated for tomorrow.
The communique which was addressed to the school Rector and obtained by Starnews Nigeria on Monday afternoon reads below:
“The Congress observed the followings:
“Non-payment of 13 months’ salary to members of staff.
“The hardship and challenges of the current price of fuel on members duties and attendance to their official duties making it extremely difficult for livelihood”, the union noted.
It added that “after much emphasis and extensive deliberation, the Congress unanimously agreed to withdraw the services of members from participating in the scheduled First Semester Examination Exercise which is proposed to commence on 13th June 2023, until the condition below is met,” the union said.
The condition listed includes the full Payment of all outstanding (13 Months) salary arrears owned by the staff of the institution.
“The Congress wish to strongly emphasise that the decision above is binding on all the financial members of the union (ASUP)”, it said
