2023 Election: Why Nigerians Do Not Need Bola Tinubu of APC As President

By Akinrinlola Olumide

With the election of President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as the nation’s president, Nigeria has become more divided along ethnic, socio-economic, political and religious lines which is currently threatening the unity and peaceful co-existence of the country.

So the election of a new president in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria will determine a lot of things in the country. As a plural state diverse in culture with ethnic, religious, language and historic differences, the Nigerian society must elect a detribalised Nigerian who could hold the country together in its cultural, economic and political diversities.

With the current reality in Nigeria, it would take a man of independent mind with new policies to be able to address the division already created by the current president of Nigeria under the ruling APC. Nigerians can’t put new wine in old bottles and get the desired result.

In all modesty, Buhari -APC’s government divided Nigerians and eroded our unity. Tinubu of APC who already promised to follow the footsteps of Buhari is not in a better position and cannot obviously be in a better position to unify Nigeria.

To reposition Nigeria, we need a president who can fight the prevalence of insecurity which appears to be rising and fast evolving into an existential crisis that is shaking the foundation of our nationhood. We need a man who will fight the root causes of insecurity including the lack of opportunities, and the collapse of education in the country. We need a man who will curb the menace of herdsmen crisis and put an end to the bloodshed in nigeria. It will be difficult for a man like Tinubu fix our numerous problems having already pledged loyalty to Buhari and the Fulani Caliphate who are destroying Nigeria.

We don’t need a president like Tinubu who is coming to build on Buhari’s legacy of unprecedented failure. We don’t need a president like Tinubu who is coming to solidify the economic hardship and bad policy of this current administration. We don’t need a president like Tinubu who already promised to fight corruption like Buhari. Otherwise, corruption will grow wings and fly higher than an eagle in the Country. We don’t need a man like Tinubu with controversial academic records, controversial age, controversial identity as the president of Nigeria – a story for another day.

Nigerians should elect a president who will restructure Nigeria and devolve more powers to the states if voted into power in 2023. That way, states will be able to set their own development priorities while the federal government focuses on setting and maintaining standards. A federal system that does not encourage the federating units to compete among themselves for the sake of development is a faulty one. Our country needs restructuring in order to survive and thrive.

And sincerely speaking, no saint can fix Nigeria if he does not go through restructuring. This is why we must forget tribal politics and elect a man with the right vision. Anyone who wants to be president because he believes it is his turn has no business doing in the presidential villa.

I, therefore, urge Nigerians to have an open mind and elect the right man to succeed Buhari so that the country can move forward.
